Compositional studies of baobab seed oil identify oleic, linoleic and palmitic acids as its principal fatty acids, together with smaller quantities of stearic acid and naturally occurring antioxidant compounds.
Experimental studies have investigated its emollient, antioxidant and skin-conditioning properties.
However, robust human clinical evidence demonstrating that baobab seed oil alone reduces scalp itching, treats irritation or protects against environmental damage remains limited.
Its primary established cosmetic role is emollient conditioning and lipid replenishment.
